Designed for rural Iola, Kansas, the low-rise residential units offer a bikeable complex, rich with community connection and luxurious, sustainable small-town living. With a bike trail carved throughout the site, the complex creates a “filling station” for pedestrians traveling from downtown Iola, to the newly developed state park to the south. With Iola historically developed from oil and gas resources, the bike trail represents a transition between historic and new forms of transportation. Commercial spaces below the units offer bike rentals, coffee, and outdoor gear shops for residents and visitors of all ages to engage in the downtown context and create connection to the state park.
